Indiana State Sanatorium - Rockville, IN

It's been almost a year since I last visited the old Indiana State Sanatorium, only this time with friends who are all fellow creatives. I need more days like this in my life. Exploring abandoned buildings with friends and making art together.

It was an exciting day. I had all sorts of ideas planned to shoot and I couldn't wait to shoot them and get them out of my head. My brain works like that. Ideas gnaw at me until I make them come to life, then new ideas move in. Anyways, I had these ideas roaming around in my head for about a year and I really needed to release them. Due to reasons outside her control, one of my friends/models last minute couldn't make it. This meant I had to get out of my comfort zone (behind the camera where I prefer to be) and into a few of the shots so I may release those concepts from my brain with the help of my friend and fellow photographer, Rob. Check out his work here. -Click this-

Once I got the gnawing ideas photographed and out of the way it was time to be purely spontaneous. I brought a large laundry basket full of vintage dresses, patient gowns, a doctors jacket, gauze, and a slew of other random items I might possibly want to use.

ADHD was in full force at this point. I felt like a rabid squirrel with all the ideas coming to me quicker than I could keep up with. Between wanting to photograph the way the light was falling through a window in an empty dusty room, to photographing Melissa as an inpatient, and my friend Heather for her upcoming album. Heather was wearing something magical that our fashion designer and dear friend Emily made.

Another friend and her son came along as well. Her son was cracking me up, collecting all the plungers he could find while wearing a hairnet and patient gown he found.

I could blab forever about this day and this location and how amazing my friends are but I don't want this to become one of those blogs like when you're looking for a recipe. We get it Carol, you really love asparagus and how it reminds you of a crisp, cool summer evening while you watch your dog roll in the grass and your neighbors are outside fighting. Just get to the recipe already!

So, on with some photos already!
